Have any picky eaters, budding chefs, or kids who just want to have a good time while learning about making healthy nutritious food? This unique pediatrician-led cooking course may be just for your kids!
Description
A kids cooking and tasting class that focuses on a healthy, plant-based diet. Each class will focus on a different group of fruits and vegetables. Class will start with tasting different types of plant foods and learning about their different health benefits. Students will then prepare one or two dishes while learning basic cooking skills. Students will record the ethnic dishes they prepare in a “Food Passport,” which they can use beyond the class to continue their food adventure. The class will be taught by Nimali Fernando, MD, pediatrician and healthy food enthusiast, with the help of chefs and other experienced cooks. Students will also be exposed to lessons about local food buying and growing.
When: Spring Class is Tuesdays in May (7th, 14th, 21st, 28th) from 4:00-6:00pm
Summer camp is August 12-16th from 1:30-4:00pm.
(parents are asked to drop off their kids and return for a tasting at the end of class).
The course consists for four sessions. Each day students will focus on and different seasonal plant group like:
• Pumpkin
• Leafy greens
• Squash
• Apples

Cost
Tuition of $75 (four the entire spring course)and $100 (for 5 day summer camp) goes to “The Doctor Yum Project” a non-profit which partners with families to raise kids who eat a healthy whole food diet and aims to reduce obesity and childhood illness in our community.
